The Youth Ministry Council is the organization within Asbury UMC that provides coordination and oversight of Asbury Youth Ministries. It's primary function is to set policy and serve as a steering committee, providing guidance to the Director of Youth Ministry, and other professional staff and volunteers that are in ministry with youth. It also serves as an advocate in youth related issues within the church.
In addition to being responsible for near term, tactical oversight of the Youth Ministry at Asbury, the Youth Ministry Council is also responsible for working with the professional staff members to develop long-term, strategic plans.
The Youth Ministry Council is comprised primarily of volunteers that are involved with some aspect of youth ministry. This includes parents, counselors, professional staff members, etc.
The first point of contact for anyone with a question, comment, compliment, or concern should be the the paid staff member for the particular ministry area. (Youth Group: Director of Youth Ministry, Youth Choir: Youth Choir Director, etc.) Should that contact not address the question, comment, compliment, or concern, and additional contact be required, the Youth Ministry Council must be the next contact. The Youth Ministry Council is the organization with oversight responsibility. Contacting other staff members, or organizations, will result in referral to the Youth Ministry Council.
